The model only works for equipment standardized enough to be interchangeable across different users — non-standard, highly customized equipment can't be pooled the same way, since a shared fleet only works if any unit can serve any customer's need without modification. It also depends on having viable tracking, repair and repositioning infrastructure to manage the fleet across dispersed locations; without that logistics backbone, pooled equipment gets lost, damaged, or stranded far from where it's next needed, collapsing the model into the same inefficiency it was meant to solve. And it requires enough participating companies and volume for pooling to actually achieve higher utilization than private ownership — a thin market with too few participants or too irregular demand might never generate the throughput needed for a pooled fleet to outperform individually owned equipment.
