Jeep's Middle East community is one of the brand's strongest worldwide, and the brand wanted to address them in a way only they would understand. Instead of a conventional campaign, Publicis Middle East noticed that the seven-slot grille — dots and vertical lines — looks like Morse code, the historic language of far-flung, off-grid destinations only a Jeep reaches.

The agency built the 'Call of Adventure' font, refined to the exact dimensions of the grille's dots and lines, and ran cryptic coded messages across in-mall mupis, point of sale and magazines in May 2022. The ads carried no Jeep name, no logo and no call to action — the deliberate bet being that for an audience that prizes discovery, no CTA is the strongest CTA.

People who were curious searched online and landed on a hidden microsite that decoded taglines and let them compose their own messages; the font itself was downloadable. Vehicles were even hidden inside the ads so people had to hunt for them, extending the discovery mechanic into the visuals.

The Jeep community adopted the code spontaneously, sending Morse messages in Jeep Club WhatsApp groups and commenting in code on the brand's social posts. The campaign won the Industry Craft Grand Prix at Dubai Lynx 2023 and a Merit at The One Show 2023, and AdForum later ranked it the most awarded automotive campaign globally.

The grille's dots and lines already read as Morse code

The grille is a legally owned, instantly recognisable asset — no rival could copy the language without copying the trademark itself.

Removing the logo and CTA filtered for insiders: decoding effort itself became proof of belonging.

Morse code's real-world association with remote, off-grid travel made the code semantically on-brand, not arbitrary.

Giving the font away turned the audience from viewers into transmitters, generating organic coded conversations.

When your community treats your design mark as identity, a code only they can read rewards belonging more than any call to action — excluding outsiders is the mechanism, not the cost.

Fans adopted Morse code in their own Jeep club chats and social comments. The work took the Industry Craft Grand Prix at Dubai Lynx 2023 and was named AdForum's #1 most awarded automotive campaign globally in 2024.
