Toyota turned women-named streets into audio stories and won a Lynx Grand Prix
Geo-triggered audio told drivers the stories behind UAE street names — and won Dubai Lynx's Audio & Radio Grand Prix.
Al-Futtaim Toyota
The solution
Al-Futtaim Toyota, the UAE's long-established distributor, needed to rebuild an emotional bond with buyers as competition intensified and cars felt interchangeable. A brand known for reliability lacked a story people wanted to share or feel part of.
For Emirati Women's Day 2024 it partnered with RTA and Memac Ogilvy to turn streets named for women — Hessa Street, Latifa Bint Hamdan Street — into geo-targeted audio narratives through Yango Maps. As drivers approached, female Emirati voice artists told the woman's story; radio traffic bulletins, out-of-home and social media amplified the theme.
The campaign won the Audio & Radio Grand Prix at Dubai Lynx 2025; its award entry reports a 5% sales increase and a 25% rise in purchase intention. Toyota stopped selling a vehicle and started enriching an everyday drive with cultural meaning.
Why it worked
- It used infrastructure people already pass daily, so reach cost little extra and the message felt native rather than intrusive.
- Emirati Women's Day fixed a cultural date, making the campaign timely and giving media a reason to cover it.
- Telling real women's stories tied Toyota to national identity — the emotional connection no spec sheet can deliver.
What can be applied
You don't need a bigger media budget to own a cultural moment — put the message where people already are and make the medium itself the story.
Aftermath
The trade press covered the Grand Prix win widely, and Memac Ogilvy later cited the campaign as its example of how local cultural understanding sells. The street-story format became a reference point for regional automotive marketing.
