Swiggy hijacked cooking videos so couples could split the recipe in half.
Dentsu Webchutney rewrote popular Indian recipes into a 'better half' version that splits cooking between two people, and hid it in chefs' own YouTube comments.

那一手
In India, gender attitudes around parenting and careers had shifted, but the share of chores men did had not. Swiggy's insight was that telling couples to be fair was less useful than giving them a way to actually split the work.
Dentsu Webchutney hijacked the comments of 70 of India's most-watched chefs, turning over 160 trending recipes into 'better half' versions that divide the cooking equally, each with timestamps and collected in a playlist anyone can search for. A 'better half podcast' then split audio so each earpiece played only one partner's instructions.
The move attached a practical tool to the cultural conversation. Instead of a moral appeal for equality, couples got a mechanism that made splitting a recipe as easy as searching a variation.
为什么管用
- A reusable tool is easier to adopt than a message that asks you to change
- Placing it inside chefs' comments met people where they already cooked
- Time-stamped instructions made the division exact rather than symbolic
- The split-audio podcast made the equality literal in the listening itself
可以搬走什么
To change a stubborn everyday practice, hand people a tool that makes the fair way the easy way, and put it where the behaviour already happens.
后来呢
The Better Half Recipes earned two Cannes Lions shortlists and a Bronze Lion in Creative E-commerce in 2021 for Swiggy Instamart, as well as other effectiveness honours. It became a reference example for turning a social insight into a functional product rather than a campaign film.
