Whisper's #KeepGirlsInSchool movement had already spent editions pushing menstrual education into schools. For the 2023 fourth edition, Leo Burnett India shifted the target one generation up: the data said the bottleneck was mothers, who never received period education themselves and so passed silence and stigma to their daughters.

The film follows two girls whose classmate Purvi keeps missing school on her period. They assemble a working model of the female reproductive system from household junk — bicycle seat, bottle, pipes, marbles, watermelons — walk to her house, and demonstrate the biology to her mother, framing pads as what lets a girl attend school every day of the month. The mother, the actual gatekeeper, becomes the student without losing face.

Entered at Cannes Lions 2024 as 'Period Science for Moms', the work picked up two Sustainable Development Goals shortlists (Good Health & Well-Being and Quality Education) for Leo Burnett Mumbai, among India's 57 shortlists that year. P&G says the broader programme has reached over 10 crore girls with free pads and period education.

Educate the mother by letting her daughter teach her

It attacks the real gatekeeper: mothers, not girls, decide whether a period means staying home.

A child teaching an adult bypasses the shame that blocks adult-to-adult conversation.

The science-project frame turns a taboo subject into homework — a context where Indian mothers expect to learn from kids.

The product appears as the enabler of school attendance, so brand purpose and category growth point the same way.

When the audience you must change is too embarrassed to be lectured, hand the lesson to someone they can't dismiss — their own child. The messenger removes the taboo, not the message.

The campaign earned two Cannes Lions 2024 SDG shortlists. Whisper continued the mother-focused line with later editions such as 'Project Early Periods', itself shortlisted at Cannes Lions 2025, keeping #KeepGirlsInSchool running as a multi-year platform rather than a one-off film.
