Kara's problem was sameness. Santan packs commonly showed coconuts and made a functional ingredient feel interchangeable. A standard relaunch would have polished the coconut cue or added appetite photography.

The Kancil entry describes a sharper move: six limited-edition packs, each built around a Malaysian dish and a matching art language, from batik for nasi kerabu to pop art for banana leaf rice.

The pack did not stop at shelf impact. AR features carried cultural trivia in the dish's native language, while recipe videos helped people cook at home. The physical pack became media, education and usage stimulus in one object.

Make the pack teach the dish

It shifted attention from raw ingredient to finished dish, which is where desire lives.

The art styles made local culture a design system rather than decorative garnish.

AR and recipe links gave shoppers a reason to keep interacting after purchase.

When a category's packaging all says the same obvious thing, use the pack to show what the ingredient makes possible.

Kancil Awards listed Kara's Packs of Inspiration across multiple 2024 design and digital categories, including digitally enhanced physical experiences and illustration. The useful trick was making packaging do the job that recipes, media and cultural storytelling usually do separately.
