Honda turned riders' odometer kilometers into mudik homecoming tickets
Homecoming seats sell out instantly, so Honda let the highest-mileage riders swap dashboard kilometers for tickets, like airline miles.
Astra Honda Motor
The solution
Every year around Eid, Astra Honda Motor (AHM) runs Mudik Balik Bareng Honda, busing riders home and hauling their motorcycles on trucks so families can travel safely. Seats sell out within days, the program has a devoted base, and awareness among Gen Z keeps falling.
New agency TU7UH Creative Lab changed the packaging instead of the product. The program, previously general and open, became a hyper-targeted invitation built on the kilometer data sitting on each Honda owner's dashboard, presented the way an airline presents frequent-flyer miles.
Riders could exchange the kilometers they had ridden for a special mudik ticket priced at Rp150,000, with the 50 highest-mileage owners getting first access. The more a person rode, the more the invitation felt earned - and the mechanic made loyalty visible, not just promised.
The two Honda campaigns took TU7UH - founded in August 2024 - to a gold, two silvers and a bronze at Citra Pariwara 38, then two silvers and a bronze at Spikes Asia 2026, where the agency was named Indonesia Agency of the Year.
Why it worked
- It turns data customers already generate - odometer readings - into a reward, making loyalty visible and earned.
- The airline-miles frame makes an old program feel exclusive and legible to Gen Z.
- Hyper-targeted invitations reach the riders most likely to respond instead of a broadcast to everyone.
- Tying the reward to mileage reinforces the product's core promise: riding.
What can be applied
When a loyal audience is aging out, repackage the same benefit in a currency the next generation already values - their own data.
Aftermath
The Kilometer Loyalty Exchange was one of two Honda homecoming campaigns that won metals at Citra Pariwara 38 and Spikes Asia 2026, where TU7UH Creative Lab was named Indonesia Agency of the Year. AHM has run homecoming service stations and group programs since 2010 under its OneHEART commitment, and the mileage mechanic gave the annual program a new, data-driven entry point.
