Aldi France struggled to make shoppers understand its everyday-low-price model, even though the chain ranked among the world's largest retailers. Its non-food dupes created demand, but the clearest proof came when €29 Aldi air dryers appeared on second-hand sites above €50.

Rather than complain about resellers, Aldi and TBWA\Paris bought the products back within 48 hours. They built individualized micro-sites and sold more than 100 air dryers back at €29 to micro-influencers who had been looking for them.

The exchange asked buyers to post thank-you videos. The One Show entry reports 33,000 new TikTok followers, more than 850,000 views on the videos, five times Aldi France's normal 2024 social engagement rate, and more than 100 air dryers resold.

Turn resale markup into proof

The resale markup made Aldi's original price advantage undeniable.

Buying the products back turned brand positioning into behavior.

Micro-sites made each influencer feel personally served, so the posts sounded earned.

When the market accidentally proves your value proposition, act on the proof instead of merely advertising it.
