Vedantu packed a device that turns weak 2G into a 4G hotspot inside a schoolbook.

Vedantu and Dentsu hid an internet-signal aggregator in an illustrated book, so rural children could study online with almost no connectivity.

那一手

Rural India has a deep educational divide: poor infrastructure, too few teachers and child labour pull kids out of school. Only about 5% of rural households had internet access, so online learning was effectively impossible even though smartphones were common.

The obvious fix is to build more connectivity infrastructure, but completion dates are far away. Vedantu and Dentsu instead re-used the thin 2G signal that rural areas already had.

The Everything Book aggregates many weak 2G mobile networks into one 4G-equivalent 'hyperspot' using a cloud AI packet broadcaster and assembler. Because the device is handheld and charges like a phone, it travels with a child and gives free access to classes from grade 1 to 12.

The work was shortlisted for the Innovation Spikes at Spikes Asia 2024 and shone as a product that met a need rather than as a one-off ad.

为什么管用

  • It works with the 2G that exists, so it does not wait for new 4G towers
  • It is portable, so one device moves between households and schoolrooms
  • It ships free education content, turning a connectivity fix into a learning fix
  • It is cheap enough to scale across a vast country instead of a single district
值了多少Stitch several weak 2G networks into one usable signal聪明

可以搬走什么

Where infrastructure is missing, do not wait for it or ship a device that depends on it — combine whatever thin connectivity already exists into something usable.

后来呢

The book brought classes to children in remote villages and became a reference case for what creative technology can do where infrastructure lags. It demonstrated a transferable method: patch multiple weak signals into one strong link rather than build from zero.
