Dubai's parking operator turned parking fees into footfall for small shops.

Small neighbourhood businesses in Dubai depend on the paid public parking right outside their doors, while the malls offer free parking, so a small shop often loses the customer who will not pay to stop.
Parkin, the city's largest paid-parking operator, re-imagined its own asset in 'Spots for Shops': a driver parks, buys from a participating shop - a coffee, a haircut, a key cut - then validates the purchase in the Parkin app and gets the parking fee back in their wallet.
It effectively brings mall-parking convenience to the street, turning parking from a barrier into an incentive to stop and discover a local business, and the pilot covered fifteen businesses in its first wave.
Beyond the app, selected parking spaces carried bespoke artwork and directions to the shop, making the spots themselves street-level media; the initiative earned a spot on the Cannes Lions 2026 Brand Experience & Activation shortlist.
