The solution
Yeo's is a Singapore heritage drinks brand known for chrysanthemum tea and soy bean milk. Few younger consumers knew it also sells a premium First Harvest Green Tea made from first-harvest tea leaf buds with no preservatives — a product with no awareness problem it could solve by saying 'buy our green tea' louder.
In August 2024, at the height of the 'brat summer' craze set off by Charli XCX's album BRAT — a low-resolution Arial title on an aggressively neon-green cover that brands from Kate Spade to the Kamala Harris campaign were borrowing — Yeo's did the opposite of a polite brand tie-in: it launched a limited edition called brattea by stripping its labelling entirely and dressing the bottle in brat green.
There was no big media launch. Yeo's invited five Gen Z influencers to unbox unmanned drops at surprise locations across youth Singapore — Haji Lane thrift stores, university grounds, Orchard Road, Clarke Quay — four locations in three days. Bottles were reportedly snapped up within minutes at each drop.
The jury of the Effie Awards Singapore 2025 put brattea on the shortlist in the Small Budgets category — professional confirmation that the stunt moved a business metric, not just a hashtag.
What it achieved
Wear the meme: strip the label, borrow brat green
Why it worked
The dumb alternative was a conventional campaign explaining that Yeo's green tea is high quality — more reach, zero memorability, and the wrong audience.
Anti-design is the point: brat summer's aesthetic was deliberately unfinished, so a label-free bottle signaled authenticity in exactly the visual language Gen Z was already rewarding.
The meme match was mechanical, not thematic: Yeo's had a literally green product, so the borrow cost nothing and looked inevitable rather than forced.
Unmanned drops with no purchase limit converted meme attention into filmed scarcity — every sell-out video was the next drop's advertising.
What can be applied
Borrow a meme by adopting its visual grammar completely, not by bolting a wink onto normal ads. A limited edition keeps trend-riding cheap and time-boxed, and scarcity does the marketing for free.
Aftermath
Yeo's said bottles were snapped up within minutes at each of the four drop locations. A year later, in July 2025, the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Singapore placed brattea on the Effie Awards Singapore 2025 shortlist for Small Budgets — the effectiveness award's recognition that the stunt produced measurable results, and the campaign kept Yeo's in youth-culture conversations well beyond its three-day window.
