The solution
Unilever already had an NCAA March Madness platform, but men's grooming needed a reason to matter inside a crowded retail moment. A standard display would have competed with every other tournament promotion.
Arc Worldwide built the Texas Barber Bracket around 16 Texas barbers, live voting, free haircuts, a branded airstream and in-store H-E-B activations. The basketball bracket became a grooming bracket.
The cleverness was the category translation. Fans were already preparing for game day; the campaign made personal care part of that preparation and gave the retailer a local Texas story rather than a generic national sponsorship.
What it achieved
Make grooming part of the pregame
Why it worked
It converted a sports sponsorship into an action shoppers could take in store.
The barber competition gave the products a credible guide and a live reason to try them.
Local H-E-B activation made a national NCAA property feel specific to Texas.
What can be applied
A sponsorship works harder when the brand translates the event's behavior into a shoppable ritual instead of just borrowing its logo.
Aftermath
Effie Insights lists Texas Barber Bracket as a 2023 Bronze Effie. Arc said the program included 16 barbers and $30,000 in grants; Effie reported that it raised men's grooming sales 11.8%.
