The solution
Malaysia's large e-commerce platforms often use celebrities to sell products, while small sellers and creators remain invisible. TikTok Shop's Malaysia Day brief was to redirect attention to the people closest to everyday Malaysian buying habits.
Fishermen Integrated reframed those sellers as Jaguh Lokal, or local heroes. Instead of a standard seller directory, it built a miniature parade inspired by national celebrations, with each hero presented through phone screens and discoverable by scanning.
The solution worked because it made marketplace participation feel public and honorable. Kancil recognized the campaign as a merit winner for Best digital-led integrated campaign and Best use of influencers.
What it achieved
Treat small sellers like national celebrities
Why it worked
It used an existing national ritual, the parade, so the metaphor was instantly legible.
The miniature set made phone-based shopping tangible in a public space.
Scanning turned passive attention into direct exploration of seller stories.
The campaign shifted the hero role from paid celebrities to the platform's own merchants.
What can be applied
When a platform needs trust, it can elevate the people inside the marketplace instead of advertising the platform itself.
Aftermath
The Kancil Awards listed TikTok Shop Jaguh Lokal among 2024 digital experience winners. Its related craft entry also received recognition for art direction, showing the idea carried through both strategy and execution.
