The solution
Swisscom needed a cheaper way to upsell existing customers in a saturated telecom market. Most marketers would add another email or retargeting sequence, exactly when customers were already filtering digital noise.
The MOVE program reframed relocation as a buying moment. Moving means new routines, new household needs and unusually high attention to the first post arriving at the new address.
Swisscom and Buhler & Buhler built an automation channel that generated and sent hyper-personalized postcards with relevant offers. Effie Switzerland said conversion rose by up to 200%, with up to three times higher conversion in key target groups than similar classic measures.
What it achieved
Use the mailbox at the moment intent resets
Why it worked
The trigger was behavioral: a move changes what the customer is ready to consider.
The channel matched the moment, because a new mailbox briefly makes physical post interesting.
Automation kept a high-touch format from becoming a manual direct-mail project.
The idea avoided bidding against every other advertiser in digital channels.
What can be applied
The clever channel is often the one whose context changed. A boring medium can outperform when timing makes it emotionally fresh again.
Aftermath
The campaign was shortlisted in Effie Switzerland's 2022 Marketing Automation category and also received a Silver Effie. More importantly, it proved that personalization did not have to mean another screen; it could make a low-tech touchpoint timely enough to convert.
