The solution
Chicken McNuggets had a small but familiar sharing problem: many pack sizes do not divide evenly among the people at a table. The One Club entry notes that fans had already turned the issue into social content around the Chicken McNugget Theorem.
McDonald's Switzerland did not answer with another film about sharing. It created the Chicken McNugget of Love: a single nugget that could be added to any order so the table could split the food evenly.
The move converted a tiny friction into a purchasable fix. During the campaign period, the One Club entry reports a 10.5% UPT lift versus previous months, a 25% rise in average Chicken McNugget UPT, 103,000 single nuggets sold, CHF 960,000 in earned media, and 400,000 user-generated engagements.
What it achieved
Solve the joke with inventory, not copy
Why it worked
The product change was small enough for stores to execute but visible enough to become news.
It rewarded the audience's existing meme instead of trying to manufacture a new one.
A one-unit add-on made sharing feel polite and playful while also increasing transactions.
What can be applied
When customers already make a product problem into a joke, the cleanest campaign may be to change the SKU so the joke disappears.
Aftermath
The campaign was shortlisted at ADC Europe in 2025. Its durable trick was treating menu architecture as media: a one-nugget SKU gave the brand a story, a coupon-like upsell, and a practical answer to a real table ritual.
