Lay's had a product truth that was both benefit and problem: crispy chips sound good, but crunching can drown out a video. Happiness Saigon turned that conflict into Crispy Subtitles, a free Chrome plug-in for people watching YouTube while snacking.

Adobo Magazine reported that the team trained the AI on 178 hours of crisp crunch sounds gathered from around the world. BLISS, the production partner, says the lightweight TensorFlow model ran inside the browser plug-in, so audio was not recorded or sent to a server.

Spikes Asia later recognized the work with a Digital Craft Gold and Direct Silver in 2022. The campaign's charm was that it did not apologize for loud crunch; it made the crunch useful.

Make the nuisance the control signal

It converted a product drawback into the interface input.

Running the model in-browser removed privacy and server-dependency concerns.

The utility lived inside the exact behavior Lay's wanted to encourage: snacking while watching.

If a product creates a tiny annoyance, solve that annoyance in a way only the product can own.

Crispy Subtitles earned multiple creative awards, including Spikes Asia honors. Its transferable pattern is product-native utility: solve the micro-friction caused by the product, and the solution becomes branded without needing a logo-heavy ad.
