Frontier Markets began as a rural last-mile distributor, then changed the salesforce in 2015. Instead of sending mostly male sellers into villages, it built an all-woman Saheli network because women were the primary users of many household durables and could enter homes with trust.

Business Today reported that by 2021 the company had 10,000 rural women entrepreneurs across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar, had reached over 350,000 households and sold more than 2 million products. Customers who once traveled 30-50 km for a refrigerator or TV could go to a Saheli in the village.

The model later moved the same insight into WhatsApp. Turn.io's case study says Frontier used the familiar channel for registration, product updates, training and customer engagement, reaching 35,000+ digital rural women entrepreneurs across 5,000+ villages.

Make trust the last-mile channel

The seller solved trust, education, ordering and service in one role.

Voice and vernacular tools fit users who were not comfortable with standard ecommerce dashboards.

Brands gained a demand-sensing network, not only a delivery network.

The model let women earn without leaving their own villages.

In trust-heavy markets, the distribution interface can matter more than the catalog. Put technology behind the person customers already let in.

Frontier expanded the Saheli platform beyond durables into agriculture, finance, clean energy, healthcare and commerce. Turn.io reported reach of 3.5 million households and over $30 million of income generated by Sahelis.
