Urban deliveries have a stubborn cost: a van clutters a city, idles in traffic, and spends time hunting for a parking spot. The standard answer was a bigger or faster van, which only added to the same congestion.

Vok Bikes designs four-wheeled electric cargo bikes specifically for city logistics. They run on an automotive-grade pedal-by-wire drivetrain with sealed electric components, so they avoid the chains and gears that fail on cycling-based bikes and need little servicing.

Because they can use bike and bus lanes and stop in tight spaces, the bikes skip the traffic and parking that eat a van's day. In real tests Vok's bikes delivered 44 percent faster than vans and were up to 64 percent cheaper over five years; courier Evri reported a 15 percent rise in parcels per hour versus its vans.

The point is not that a bike is greener it is that on a dense route it is simply faster and cheaper, while the van stays the right tool for long, high-mileage runs.

Vok Bikes raised $6 million in 2025 to scale across Europe, replacing vans for customers from local bakers to Wolt and IKEA, and it now operates in 14 countries. Courier Evri ran a winter trial and reported the cargo bikes as a comparable, even superior, alternative to vans on dense urban routes while vans remain better on long, high-mileage work.
