Dentsu's Visiongram renders each blind person's sight as a viewable dot filter

Enter a visually impaired person's acuity, field and color data and the tool turns it into a dot-design filter, so sighted people can finally see how they see.

the move

Every visually impaired person sees differently, and abstract descriptions fail to convey it — sighted family, designers and doctors cannot experience another person's exact vision.

Dentsu's Visiongram solves this by turning clinical exam data into pictures: enter the person's acuity, visual field and color-vision numbers, and the tool generates a digital dot-design filter in which dot count, density and color reproduce that individual's sight, making the invisible visible.

The tool was made publicly available in 2024 as part of Dentsu's social-innovation work, and its creator Kazuhiro Shimura won the GOOD INNOVATOR prize at SIW IMPACT 2024 for it and related projects. It was shortlisted in Societal Innovation at the 2025 Innovation Spikes.

why it works

  • It personalizes accessibility: there is no generic 'blindness', only each person's measured sight.
  • Clinical numbers become something sighted people can see, share and design for.
  • It positions an advertising lab's R&D as a tool for empathy and inclusive design.

what transfers

Empathy scales when you turn a condition into a reproducible experience instead of an abstract description.

what came after

Dentsu says Visiongram remains an active, evolving project alongside VOICE WATCH and TUNA SCOPE; the Spikes Asia 2025 shortlist and the SIW IMPACT recognition kept it in the public innovation conversation.
