Heineken helped 26 villagers buy their dying pub instead of advertising to pubs.
Heineken backed 26 Kilteely residents to buy their last local pub and turned it into a replicable model for saving rural Irish pubs.

那一手
Rural pubs are the social heart of Irish villages, and they are closing. For Heineken, the pub is the place it is drunk, so a decline in pubs is a threat to the brand's own context, not just a cultural loss.
The obvious move is a purpose-led ad about saving pubs. Heineken went further: it backed 26 residents of Kilteely, Co. Limerick who bought their village's last pub with no prior bar experience, investing around €300,000 and reopening it as The Street Bar.
Heineken paid for staff training and built a free online hub so other communities could learn how to do the same, then made a documentary of the story. That turned a single rescue into a transferable model others could copy.
The strategy was to keep the pub alive rather than sell the pint harder. It produced a tangible result: another Irish village has since bought its local pub, and two more communities are working to do the same.
为什么管用
- It protects the venue where the brand is consumed, not just its image
- It creates a repeatable model instead of a one-off brand gesture
- It makes brand purpose concrete, so people see a real rescue
- The documentary and toolkit let other towns replicate the outcome
可以搬走什么
If the channel you sell through is dying, advertising won't save it. Treat the venue as the asset and fund its survival; a repeatable model turns one gesture into a system.
后来呢
The campaign won the Creative Strategy Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2026, Heineken's second Grand Prix that week, and it has inspired additional communities to buy their local pubs. It became a reference for a brand protecting its own category's commercial survival.
