The manager of Cao Sanxi's grain trading branch in Shenyang, on a visit home, discovered pest larvae inside sorghum stalks that looked outwardly normal — a defect invisible unless someone actually opened a stalk to check, rather than judging the crop from how it looked standing in the field.
