背景
AA began in 1935 when two men in Akron, Ohio, searching for a way to stay sober, found it by forming a support group; they later developed the twelve steps. The model, open to all and free, has spread to over 2 million members in 180 nations and more than 118,000 groups.
In 2020 a Cochrane systematic review, the gold standard for medical evidence, compared AA and clinically delivered Twelve-Step Facilitation against other treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, drawing on 35 qualifying studies.
