VTEX turned a desert's fashion waste into a store that sold out in five hours.
Re-Commerce Atacama sold discarded clothes from Chile's Atacama Desert to buyers in 10+ countries, selling out in under five hours without paid media.

那一手
The Atacama Desert, one of the most polluted landscapes on earth, receives mountains of unsold and discarded fast fashion. The conventional response is to frame these garments as a charity or recycling problem with little commercial upside.
VTEX, with partners Desierto Vestido, Artplan and Fashion Revolution, instead ran it as commerce. They put the discarded clothes on an online store built on VTEX's platform, which sells company products and inventory.
The result was not an appeal but a sell-through: the inventory was redistributed to consumers in more than 10 countries, sold out in under five hours and generated around 200,000 signups for future waste drops, all with no paid media.
The work won two Bronze Lions at Cannes Lions 2025, and VTEX framed it as a reusable blueprint for enterprise circular commerce.
为什么管用
- Selling the clothes gives them value, which makes recovery self-sustaining rather than charitable
- A marketplace reaches buyers where a landfill or a donation bin cannot
- Selling out fast creates proof that circular inventory has real demand
- A commerce platform is the natural tool for it, so the mechanism scales beyond one brand
可以搬走什么
Waste that looks like a disposal problem can be re-read as a demand problem if you put it back on a marketplace instead of into a bin.
后来呢
The initiative won two Bronze Lions at Cannes Lions 2025 and VVEX positioned Re-Commerce Atacama as a repeatable model for turning retail waste into global demand rather than a one-off stunt, with 200,000 people signing up for future drops.
